Though she grew up in a melodic household under the watchful eye of musician and mother, Lyrica Garrett, Lyrica Anderson was hesitant to pursue a career as a singer and considered other professions. But still, she found herself drawn to music, performing Brandy’s “I Wanna Be Down” at a talent showcase in middle school and writing songs as a teenager. After Garrett encouraged her to continue singing, Lyrica began performing her original songs at 15 years old, but didn’t see her career projecting down the path she wanted it to. Instead, she decided to shop her songs around to other artists and found her name in the credits of hits like “Pyramid” by Charice featuring Iyaz, prompting her to begin an occupation as a songwriter. Though she already saw success penning tracks for Demi Lovato, Beyonce, and Jennifer Hudson, she decided to move past playing a behind-the-scenes role in the industry and return to her original dream. The former backup singer for Jennifer Lopez began releasing her own music and collaborated with artists like Ty Dolla $ign and Wiz Khalifa.
Her fan base grew as she made her first appearance on Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood in 2016 as a supporting cast member. By the following year, she was a featured cast member as her career and relationships were documented on the show. Her catalog continued to grow as she recorded several albums and EPs while simultaneously writing hit songs for Chris Brown, Tinashe, and Omarion. Her list of collaborations grew as well, as her releases became laced with features from French Montana, Moneybagg Yo, and Tyga. Lyrica’s most recent single, “Marriott,” introduces the next chapter in her career as she prepares to release her upcoming solo album this year.
